I liked this opinion written by JB Hickock over at Marco's forum on Boardhost.
Partisanship is the political version of prison gangs. Posted by J.B. Hickock on January 18, 2007
In a prison, the guards, warden, and the rest of the prison establishment allow, even encourage prison gangs. Why? Because as long as the prisoners are kept fighting amongst themselves, they will never unite against their real enemies--those that keep them imprisoned.
It's the same with political parties. It's cult devotion fostered to keep people distracted and fighting over invented, petty issues, so that they never unite against their real enemies--the politicians they worship and their corporate masters. The cult of partisanship keeps them distracted from the bars of their cage so they never focus on the real enemy, centralized power directed hierarchically.
