Bobby Cox was ejected for 131st time, tying a major league recond. Johnny McGraw was ejected 131 times as a manager and player. Cox owns the record for manager ejections as McGraw was ejected 14 times as a player. Coz was trying to protect Brian McCann( "He was the only catcher I had left" Cox) who was arguing a called 3rd strike. Both McCann and Cox ended being disqualified from the 2-1 loss to Detroit.
Speaking of Atlanta, they're really playing badly. The Braves aren't hitting and haven't been for quite some time. The Brave's big bat has been horrid. Andruw Jones is batting 198 and is hitless in his last 23 bats. He hasn't hit a home run in weeks. Jones has been known to go through streaks like this but he's not look like he's going to snap out of this anytime soon. Chipper Jones can't stay healthy. Brian McCann is in a long slump.
The pitching has been adequate enough to contend for the playoffs, To make any run in the playoff, the Braves need more consistancey from their Starting picthing. Yesterday Kyle Davies pitched well enough to win, only allowing 3 hits and two runs in 6 innings. Davies got hit hard in his last start. That's how it's been going with Davies. Davies has the stuff consistant with it. The Brave need Lance Cormier to get healthy and return to his last half of 06 form. Chuck James isn't as consistant as he was last year, and he'll have to steady up for the Braves to contend.
The hitting really has to improve, people need to get and stay healthy for the Braves to compete. The best you can do when you scare 1 run in four games is go 1-3, which isn't going to get you anywhere. That equates to 100 plus loses. The Mets have been worse than the Braves. That Braves lack of hitting has cost them an opportunity to take control of the NL east. If The Mets don't figure their ails out, they'll have to catch Philly. The Brave are already behind Philly and they won't catch Philly playing .300 ball.
