Mike Reagan wrote an op ed about the "Fair tax". This fair tax, a Federal sales tax of 23% would be added to all purchaces. Wage withholdings would be ended. Where the fair tax crowd loses me is this notion of paying the bureaucracy to cut some sort of prebate check to refund the tax you'd pay on say, food, or other basic needs.. I can't accept that. Then why collect the tax to begin with? The consumption tax advocates need to rethink that part of the plan. Collecting money yer going to right and send back is wasteful and inefficient. Isn't that what we're supposed to be getting around by enacting this "fair tax"
Still, the consumption tax would be an improvement over the mass we call the US tax code. Lol, only lawyers could kcuf something up as bad as the US taxcode is. I'm in favor of a flat tax, say 17% no deductions
